One of the largest and oldest brands in US automotive history, Packard (founded 1899) is known for its meticulous construction, 12-cylinder luxury cars (said to have inspired even Enzo Ferrari), pioneering sports victories, and a series of technical innovations during the 1950s. Packard can boast three important achievements in automotive history: it was the first in America to introduce wheel steering instead of tiller steering, the first to install air conditioning as well as electric windows, and the first to install central locking on popular models.
